Regional Manager Bio: Randall Cable is the Western Region Manager at SANRAL
Randall Cable is the Western Region Manager at SANRAL,a position he has held since 2018. Born and raised in Cape Town, Randall matriculated at Groenvlei Senior Secondary School in Athlone, on the Cape Flats and went straight on to complete a BSc degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Cape Town. Freshly graduated in 1995, he joined the National Department of Transport as an Engineer in Training. Two years into this job, pursuing more specialised knowledge, he ventured abroad and got a master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University in the United States, before joining SANRAL as a project manager in 1999. With a passion for road safety and the application of innovation to enhance and improve road safety, Randall has penned a series of academic and industry papers for publication and has been sought as a speaker on several national and international platforms. He has a long-standing affiliation with the World Road Association (PIARC), having served on several technical committees over the years. He is currently a PIARC Executive Committee Member and Strategic Planning Commission Member. On the local front, he is also an Engineering Department Advisory Council Member at the University of Stellenbosch.

Major Projects

HUGUENOT TUNNEL UPGRADES

With over 30 years of providing safe passage, for over 100 million vehicles, the electrical and mechanical systems of the Huguenot Tunnel recently neared the end of life, and needed replacement to ensure compliance to the international safety standards.

N7 UPGRADES OUTSIDE MOORREESBURG

The Hopefield Interchange is designed to link the R45 to the new N7, with a focus on safer access and increased capacity of the road, given the continuous expansion and development of the surrounding towns.

THEMBALETHU INTERCHANGE IN GEORGE

The upgrade of the Thembalethu Bridge in George in partnership with George Municipality holds significant economic benefits for the Southern Cape and local SMMEs.
