TRAFFIC ADVISORY
NIGHT-TIME ROAD CLOSURES ON N2 BETWEEN KWAMASHU TO MOUNT EDGECOMBE INTERCHANGE
Pietermaritzburg, 21 May 2025 – The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) wishes to inform road users of planned night-time closures on the N2 northbound carriageway between the KwaMashu and Mount Edgecombe interchanges. These closures are necessary to facilitate the installation of two overhead sign gantries that span the N2 as part of ongoing upgrade works.
“Construction on this section of the N2 has reached an advanced stage and now requires the installation of road sign gantries. This is a key part of the broader upgrade of the N2 between KwaMashu and Mdloti,” said Jason Lowe, SANRAL KwaZulu Natal’s Provincial Specialist: Geometrics Engineer.
Closure Details:
N2 Northbound Carriageway (Durban to King Shaka International Airport)
From: 19:00 on Saturday, 31 May 2025 to 07:00 on Sunday, 1 June 2025
Please note: The southbound carriageway will remain fully open to traffic during this period.
In the interest of safety for both motorists and the construction team, comprehensive traffic management measures are in place. Road users can expect to see the installation of temporary signage, safety barriers, and traffic calming devices in preparation for the closure. A detailed alternative route guide is provided below to assist motorists in navigating around the affected section.
SANRAL apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks the public for their patience and cooperation as we work to improve South Africa’s national road network. “We urge all road users to plan ahead and, where possible, depart earlier than usual. Operators of heavy vehicles and trucks are advised to delay travel during the closure or make use of suitable staging areas to prevent congestion. Public transport providers are requested to ensure their drivers are informed of the closure,” added Lowe.
